Gobblet is a deceptively simple game, but not a trivial one. It's basicly four-in-a-row, but played with cups (called gobblets) which nest like Russian dolls. In effect, "gobbling" a cup on the board is a temporary capture.
Gobblet is very easy to learn, and I think very suitable for younger players who would be bogged down by punct or confounded by zertz. It also tends to be a short game, which has obvious advantages.
One point about Gobblet that is different from the other games here, is that it is a memory game - you're not allowed to look at game history or what is concealed under the gobblets on the board. This is obviously unenforcable in internet play. I'll be experimenting with exactly how this aspect of the official game is implemented on Boardspace. |
